CHAMP WATSON

Expectations are high for the Lions Boys Basketball program, and that's ok with Champ Watson, the new Head Coach of Hamburg High School.

Coming off of 2 Regionals appearances and a 1A State Tournament appearance while leading the Strong High School program the last 3 years, Watson understands about building a program.

The Lions have to look at youth as he will begin a program from the elementary level thru high school. "Development will be crucial for our program", Watson said. He looks forward to building a foundation from basic fundamentals towards an advance level that will further develop overall basketball skills along with building strength.

"I am so excited to be "home", Hamburg has always been a special place for me. Family and friends run deep here. Watson also jokingly mentioned, "I reached out to several of my Hamburg friends and family and truly asked permission to become a LION." Most of our relationships go back nearly 40-50 years.

Head Coach Basketball: TEXAS COLLEGE 2006-2007

●Developed (1) player to play professionally

Assistant Basketball: LR Parkview 2008-2018

●4 State Championships (2011, 2012, 2016, 2018)

●2 State Finals Runner Up (2014, 2017)

●6 Conference Championships (2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018)

●Record: 235-52 - 8 years of 25 wins or more

●Nationally Ranked

●2 Whataburger Championships (2011, 2014)

●2 Coco-Cola Championships (2008, 2009)

●Over 35 combined player selections for All-State, All-Conference, and also to play professionally overseas or the NBA

Head Coach Basketball: Strong 2018-2021

●Inherited a program who lost 9 key players
